Defence Force CIO, Victor Vaeau, seeks new role

Defence advertises for new CIO

The CIO of New Zealand’s Defence Force, Victor Vaeau, has left and is seeking a new role as a “transformation specialist”.

According to his LinkedIn page, Vaeau left Defence in June after five years as CIO and, before that, almost three years as head of operations.

His LinkedIn page says he is now “free to explore next adventure” and is seeking a role as a transformation specialist. “Traversing the boulevard of opportunity and possibilities - CIO | CDO | COO | Program directorship | Advisory Services | Security | Organisation & Operating model Transformation. I'm free if you're in need, give me a call or msg.”

As CIO of NZDF he says he “delivered transformational change in the technology function to position ICT at the core of developing and leveraging technology to deliver current and future military capability.”

Before joining the Defence Force he spent several years in banking IT, starting with Trustbank in 1996, followed by Westpac, National Bank NZ and ANZ National Bank following its acquisition of National Bank NZ by ANZ Bank in 2003.

Defence has advertised the CIO role.

“The Chief, Communications & Information Services (CCIS) is a critical leadership role in this large and complex government organisation,” the advertisement states.

“Leading a team of over 300 professionals, the CCIS will manage a substantial operational budget and significant capital investment. They will contribute to the development of ICT strategy and be accountable for its implementation.”
