Government offering $1m for ‘bold’ digital curriculum projects

The move follows last month’s announcement by Education Minister Hekia Parata that digital technologies will be included in The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa from 2018

The Ministry of Education is to make available $1 million to strengthen digital technology education through collaboration between schools, kura, communities of learning and industry.

The move follows last month’s announcement by Education Minister Hekia Parata that digital technologies will be included in The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa from 2018.

The RFP says the funding is available for “digital technology ‘seed’ projects or models that will support the Ministry of Education’s broader package of support to schools, teachers and students to implement changes to the National Curriculum in regard to digital technologies.”

The RFP tells potential respondents: “Don’t be afraid to be bold, this is an opportunity to contribute to an exciting and significant development for the New Zealand schooling system and our children. … The proposal should be able to demonstrate how it will support The New Zealand Curriculum and/or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, with specific regard to supporting integrated and local curriculum delivery and programme design, particularly in ensuring effective and adaptive pedagogy, at either primary and/or secondary levels.”

The money is available to fund appropriate provider/s to ‘hit the ground running’ with a discrete one-off projects, and the contract will allow for providers to develop their concept, implement and assess its impact on learning.

Respondents are asked to demonstrate how they will support The New Zealand Curriculum and/or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, with specific regard to supporting integrated and local curriculum delivery and programme design, particularly in ensuring effective and adaptive pedagogy, at either primary and/or secondary levels
