Vodafone scores two Government telecoms contracts

Vodafone to deliver telecommunications services to two government agencies

Vodafone has been awarded contracts for the delivery of telecommunications services to two government agencies – the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

The move follows Vodafone being named as one of 12 suppliers of telecommunications services to the Government under its Telecommunications as a Service (TaaS) initiative, announced in November 2015, and administered by the Government’s chief information officer at the Department of Internal Affairs.

Vodafone says it has been contracted provide MBIE with mobile and fixed telephony services and unified communications, and both agencies with cloud-based contact centre services delivered using Genesys technology.

The Ministry of Justice’s acting chief executive, Audrey Sonerson, said the new contact centre service would provide a consistent, stable, and up-to-date ‘front door’ for the Ministry’s operational services team.

Ken Tunnicliffe, Vodafone’s enterprise director, said Vodafone was “looking forward to helping more agencies and departments adapt to the TaaS framework, so they can better serve their communities in today’s digital environment.”

Vodafone was selected by Careers New Zealand under the TaaS scheme in March 2016 to provide managed infrastructure, mobile and data capability, unified communications, video-conferencing, and call centre software, one of the first contracts awarded under the scheme.

Vodafone’s bid for inclusion in the TaaS contract was aided by business consultancy Voco. Vodafone executive account manager and TaaS Programme lead, Vaughan Matthews, said the Voco team had “applied an invaluable breadth and depth of domain knowledge covering all aspects our enterprise service portfolio and including both technical and commercial”.

“Voco people provided leadership of the proposition development. Without their involvement it would have been much more challenging to bring a compelling proposition together for government,” Matthews said.
