2degrees wins telecoms-as-a-service contract from Primary Industries

2degrees’ first win under the TaaS initiative

2degrees has won a contract to supply site connectivity and mobile telecommunications services to the Ministry for Primary Industries. The contract is 2degrees’ first under the Telecommunications as a Service (TaaS) initiative, announced in November 2015, and administered by the Government’s chief information officer at the Department of Internal Affairs.

Under the agreement, 2degrees will provide WAN, LAN and Wi-Fi connectivity services at more than 120 MPI locations including main offices, border facilities, laboratories and fisheries offices.

2degrees says its national mobile network will serve the Ministry’s mobile connections. “Effectively 2degrees will be responsible for connecting the 2300 strong workforce.” It will also support and manage MPI’s site and user connectivity via its national data network.

TaaS, according to 2degrees, “marks a significant change in the way Government agencies consume telecommunications by simplifying telecommunications services into simple user outcomes [keeping] the complexity in the background while delivering a consumption based model without huge infrastructure costs.” –Stuart Corner
