Datacom’s new Auckland home officially opened

IT services provider Datacom has officially opened its new office in Auckland’s innovation hub at Wynyard Quarter, bringing together 1,200 staff five previously spread across five Auckland offices.

According to Datacom “The 17,000 square metre Datacom Building in Gaunt Street, owned by Goodman and built by Fletcher Construction, was officially handed over last week following an official Maori blessing ceremony conducted by Ngati Whatua o Orakei.”

However the owner is Wynyard Precinct Holdings, a joint venture between the Goodman Property Trust and Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC, which bought the building from Fletcher in 2015 for $86.2m.

Datacom will occupy 13,500 square metres across levels one to five. Datacom says its previous offices were at capacity and ageing. “The new building caters for continued growth and has capacity to accommodate more than 1,500 people in a more dynamic environment,” the company said.

“There are 100 break out spaces for one-to-one discussions and informal meetings, 30 single person booths, state of the art training centres, and a number of special spaces which include sanctuary rooms for quiet contemplation, a library and a games room.”

The building also includes a tech demo room that “allows Datacom to share its industry leading work across augmented reality, artificial intelligence and the internet of things with the wider community,” Datacom said.

The company suggests the location of its new premises, in Wynyard Quarter creates “significant potential for Datacom to develop a culture of collaboration and co-creation between business and government.”
