IBM Tivoli updates ID management

Automating identity management is the latest move from IBM Tivoli. The company announced on Monday that all of the components that make up its identity management software platform have been updated to allow automation of policies and processes.

The updated software components include the IBM Tivoli Access Manager family, IBM Tivoli Identity Manager, IBM Tivoli Privacy, Manager, IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator and IBM Tivoli Directory Server.

Joe Anthony, director of Integrated Identity Management at IBM Tivoli Software, explained that the updates come as customers have asked for more automation and tighter integration between the separate components.

"The smart companies are automating processes to drive out cost," said Anthony. "British Petroleum has reduced the time it takes to provision a new user down from five days to 10 minutes." This is done with the dynamic rules engine enhancement found in the new version of Tivoli Access Manager, he said.

IBM's foray into the identity management space was strengthened with its September 2002 acquisition of Access360 and the June 2002 acquisition of Metamerge.

The updates to Tivoli Identity Manager 4.5 and IBM Tivoli Privacy Manager 1.2 are available now. The updates to IBM Tivoli Access Manager 5.1 family, IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator 5.2, and IBM Tivoli Directory Server 5.2 will be available before the end of the year.
