TeamTalk taps Tait for nationwide digital radio network

NZX-listed telco, TeamTalk has selected Christchurch-based Tait Communications over Motorola and Chinese company Hytera to supply and build a new nationwide digital mobile radio network that will be integrated with TeamTalk’s other networks and services.

NZX-listed telco, TeamTalk has selected Christchurch-based Tait Communications over Motorola and Chinese company Hytera to supply and build a new nationwide digital mobile radio network that will be integrated with TeamTalk’s other networks and services.  The company claims to already have the largest Tait network in the world.

Teamtalk CEO Andrew Miller told the company’s AGM in October that the company was in the middle of a RFP process with Hytera, Motorola and Tait, for the provision of a new national digital radio network.

“I have put in place a robust process and governance structure to ensure that any decision is clearly best for the business and aligns with our strategic goals,” he said.

Announcing the choice of Tait, Miller said the company had been selected following a robust RFP process that had included trials and interoperability testing and evaluation of different migration strategies.

He said many organisations were looking to establish communications diversity as a result of changes to health and safety legislation and findings of reviews into the impact of the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes.

“This investment will enable TeamTalk to continue to deliver mission critical communications to its customers, as well as offering new services and solutions that will enable TeamTalk to grow its revenues by reaching into the conventional radio market,” Miller said.

“This is a market that TeamTalk has traditionally not competed in but the new digital platform will open up new opportunities including the capability to interconnect different networks.”

Miller said the roadmap of further integrated services would be released over the next few years. “Our partnership with Tait Communications and other integrators will allow us to be at the forefront of new developments and enable New Zealand to gain access to these leading technologies and solutions quickly.”
