Symbio Networks turns on NZ-wide wholesale voice network

Symbio says it offers the only fully integrated voice network interconnecting both sides of the Tasman

Symbio Networks, a subsidiary of Australia’s MNF Group (ASX: MNF), has switched on a New Zealand-wide wholesale voice network, saying the move creates the only fully integrated voice network interconnecting both sides of the Tasman.

It says the network will enable it to deliver its full suite of wholesale voice services backed by API capability, integrated billing, provisioning and network management.

“Call collection and termination occur in New Zealand, and are billed in New Zealand dollars making it much easier to serve the local market,” Symbio said. “Yet existing customers can raise new international orders using the same familiar platform.”

Symbio’s carrier relations manager, Steven Norman said a purely wholesale network such as Symbio’s was previously unavailable in the New Zealand market.

“Wholesalers in New Zealand are not getting a good deal. Carriers are paying lip service to the wholesale market in New Zealand; features are pared down as they are focused on their retail offering,” he said.

“We believe that Symbio’s expansion in New Zealand will drive healthy wholesale competition. Our solutions are modular and scalable, bringing enhanced innovation and product choice to the New Zealand wholesale market.”

Symbio CCO Jon Cleaver said others claiming to have a trans-Tasman network had only patchwork solutions using acquisitions or silo-builds operating on different platforms, whereas “Symbio built the New Zealand network from scratch using the same platforms so the two countries can operate as one network.”

Symbio says its new network will enable start-ups to get into the New Zealand market and grow quickly. “It will provide everything around the network, freeing up small and medium wholesalers to concentrate on building their business and supporting their customers.”

The company has named Jet Interactive, an Australian company specialising providing telephone service and call tracking analytics to marketing organisations, as one of the first customers.

Jet Interactive director Justin Graham, said Symbio’s voice network would enable it to enter the New Zealand market.

Symbio said the network has points of presence in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch, enabling it to provide a redundant interconnection with Spark New Zealand, Vodafone, 2Degrees and Chorus.

Symbio has been delivering call termination and number hosting services in New Zealand since 2008. In April 2016 Symbio purchased Spark’s international voice business, TNZI.
