InternetNZ progresses restructure with new leadership team

InternetNZ has announced details of its new leadership team

InternetNZ has announced details of its new leadership team, the latest development in a restructuring process set in train in 2017.

That process called for the InternetNZ group to be structured around two legal entities: Internet New Zealand Inc and Domain Name Commission Ltd. NZRS, the registry and operator for .nz domain names, was to be absorbed into InternetNZ. That move was completed earlier this month.

InternetNZ CEO Jordan Carter was elevated to group CEO under the new structure in December 2017.

The organisation has now announced the six senior leadership roles that will report to Carter: policy director, outreach and engagement director, technology services director, chief scientist, organisational services director and commercial director.

Former community programme director, Dr Ellen Strickland will become policy director.

InternetNZ’s former deputy chief executive Andrew Cushen will become outreach and engagement director, heading what were previously the community and communication teams at InternetNZ.

Dave Baker, former chief technology officer at NZRS has been appointed technology services director.

Sebastian Castro’s role as chief scientist is unchanged. He will “Lead the technical research team in the search of greater understanding of the .nz namespace and the Internet in New Zealand, and use their expertise in data analysis to help InternetNZ achieve its goals,” InternetNZ said.

The organisation has also advertised, through recruitment agency JacksonStone, for the two remaining roles on the leadership team: organisational services director and commercial director. Somewhat unhelpfully it has set the closing dates for applications to be the same day, 17 April, that it announced their creation!

According to InternetNZ’s recruitment advert, for the organisational services director it wants someone with experience leading multiple channels of both operational and corporate services and with proven expertise in the understanding of strategy development and financial processes.

For the commercial director role InternetNZ wants someone with “a solid understanding of the domain name industry, registry services, and the opportunities in the Internet identifiers space … [and] an in-depth knowledge of market research methods and analysis, financial processes, and relationship management and sales.”
