Vodafone CEO Russell Stanners resigns

Jason Paris has been named as his successor

Vodafone NZ CEO Russell Stanners will resign at the end of October after 13 years heading the company. He will be replaced by former Spark executive Jason Paris, currently Vodafone’s UK based director for convergence acceleration, Africa, Middle East & Asia Pacific (AMAP) Region.

Stanners gave no reason for his departure saying only: “It’s been an incredible journey and the time has come for me to step down from my role as Vodafone NZ CEO.”

Stanners said it would be business as usual until his departure. “I’m committed to leading our great team until October, and beyond that, I wish the company all the best as it enters a new era.”

Stanners started his career with Vodafone NZ as its first enterprise director in 2002 and was made CEO in 2005. Vodafone regional CEO for AMAP, Vivek Badrinath said he had transformed the company from a consumer mobile business to a digital technology leader providing fixed, TV, converged and mobile services to more than two million customers across New Zealand.

Stanners’ replacement Jason Paris joined Vodafone Group from Spark in December 2017 where he was CEO of Home, Mobile and Business. Prior to joining Spark in 2011 he was CEO of TV3 and Four, and before that head of digital, marketing and strategy at TVNZ.

He describes himself on Twitter as “family man, proud Southlander, terrible dress sense,” and tweeted of his appointment to Vodafone saying: “Can’t wait to help make the world’s best tech & digital services even more accessible to NZers & their businesses.”
