Hawaiki gets a capacity boost

Boost to 67Tbps

The Hawaiki Cable connection Australia, New Zealand and the USA – which came into service only in July – has had a capacity upgrade.

Hawaiki has revealed that it has already installed Ciena's GeoMesh technology to boost the cable's initial 43.8Tbps of capacity to 67Tbps.

Hawaiki says it is how able to offer 1GbE, 10GbE, and 100GbE services and the Ciena technology will give it greater flexibility to meet current and future bandwidth demand, including faster delivery and dynamic provisioning.

To provide the upgrade Hawaiki has installed Ciena’s 6500 submarine line terminating equipment and its Waveserver Ai platform, both using Ciena WaveLogic Ai.

Additionally, it says Ciena’s Blue Planet manage, control and plan software will improve network visibility and provide real-time software control, as well as the ability to build customised solutions.
