IDC tracks 'third platform' computing

IT research firm hires research manager to analyse cloud computing, big data analytics, social business and mobility

IT research firm IDC New Zealand has appointed former Telecom strategic alliances manager Adam Dodds to the role of research manager, IT services.

Dodds will be responsible for IDC's research into a new area of third platform computing, which includes cloud computing, big data analytics, social business and mobility, IDC says in a statement.

Dodds joins IDC from Telecom New Zealand where he held the role of managing the strategic alliances team and prior to that he was financial solutions development manager at Gen-i, covering ICT products and enterprise outsource agreements.

"The research manager is a critical role for IDC and the broader industry and we have spent the last months carefully assessing our future research direction," says Ullrich Loeffler, country manager IDC New Zealand. "This will enable IDC to provide relevant strategic and tactical insights to our clients, at a time when each link in the ICT value chain is forced to redefine and reinvent their business models."

"The increased demand for a more 'utilitised' IT model represents both a challenge and an opportunity for all. The customer models are changing and the global influences are getting stronger," says Dodds.
