Inland Revenue beefs up senior ICT team

New senior ICT roles created following approval for $1.5 billion systems upgrade

Following approval of up to $1.5 billion funding for a major upgrade to Inland Revenue computer systems, the department is advertising for four new senior ICT personnel.

This is with an eye to the major transformations ahead, as well as improving services in general, IRD says.

The new appointees will report to chief technology officer technology strategy and operations, Myles Ward, who was appointed in February this year. He in turn reports directly to the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Naomi Ferguson.

A director ICT operations will be “responsible for the technical delivery of Inland Revenue’s ICT infrastructure, business applications and associated technologies.” IRD is also looking for a director of ICT solutions, who will be responsible for “”end-to-end IT-related change activity, including development and testing” and is expected to manage “the demanding challenges of multiple software development projects.”

A director ICT strategy and innovation will be in charge of formulating strategy for the next three to five years.

The fourth position advertised is for a manager of enterprise ICT security. This person will have “responsibility for developing the security architecture, proactively monitoring Inland Revenue’s environments and ensuring the necessary checks and balances are incorporated into the management of Inland Revenue’s production systems.”

The first three positions are new roles, says Ward “while the role of manager enterprise ICT security is a change in job title and is a direct report to the chief technology officer”.

Existing staff working in ICT solutions and ICT enterprise security “will retain their current responsibilities,” Ward says.

The new people have been sought to “provide the necessary support to the chief technology officer and provide leadership across the wider technology strategy and operations group,” he says.

“This will enable us to develop and deliver enhanced ICT capability as we transform our business, respond to the changing needs of government, and deliver better, smarter and more cost effective services for our customers.”

Applications for all positions close on June 7.
