Trans-tasman mobile roaming report released

Joint government report seeks comments

The New Zealand and Australian governments have released a joint discussion paper on mobile roaming between the two countries.

The paper looks at the features, quality of service, pricing transparency and prices of international mobile roaming services for those who roam between Australia and New Zealand.

According to a statement from Australian communications minister Stephen Conroy, the preliminary conclusions of the paper are that in both countries, the features offered to roamers and the quality of service are reasonable, but the transparency of roaming prices appears inadequate and consumer awareness seems low. Also, the roaming prices offered to customers seem relatively high.

Comments on the preliminary conclusions are invited.

The paper is available at the Ministry of Economic Development's website.
