Unisys service desk staff face relocation

Travel and parking cost to those who live at Kapiti would be upwards of $100 a week

Unisys plans to relocate all 21 service desk staff based at its datacentre in Kapiti into a consolidated location in Wellington city.

However, because of employment laws, Unisys first has to consult staff who would be affected.

The cost to those who live at Kapiti would be upwards of $100 a week in travel and/or parking.

Unisys says in a statement that it is reviewing its operational structure to better align the business to its customers.

“One area under consideration is relocating all service desk roles to Wellington. The proposed relocation is under internal review and consultation. No final decision has yet been made.”

In April, Unisys said it expected the expanded parts of its Kapiti datacentre, which will be supported by a two megawatt power plant, to be commissioned in October.

The company has implemented a modular design in the facility to enable expansion in capacity and more efficient cooling.
