ChCh bus data firm signs UK deal

Christchurch-based real-time public transport timetable information provider Connexionz has won a NZ$1.1 million contract to provide in-bus computers for the Reading Borough Council in the UK.

According to a statement from Connexionz, the new system will “support multimedia applications on the buses and a new WiMax communications network”.

Connexionz, which was formed in 1999 by several former Tait Electronics executives, makes software that tracks vehicles as they move across cities, providing real-time information on how far away buses are.

Connexionz’s other customers include the Christchurch City Bus Xchange and Auckland Airubs in New Zealand, and Arlington Transit and the University of Marlyland in the US.

It also has customers in Brazil, the Netherlands and Australia.

Connexionz also recently acquired 100% ownership of a UK joint venture, Connexionz Investments, after buying the remaining 50%, which was originally owned by UK interests.
