Wired prepaid broadband offering from Woosh

Woosh, which recently added fixed-line DSL broadband to its cellullar wireless product through the purchase of ISP Quicksilver, is bringing out a novel offering in time for Christmas.

Called "Woosh Broadband in a Box" it's a carton with a DSL modem inside plus six months of prepaid broadband access. It comes in two flavours: one aimed at single users for $250 and another better suited for sharing with a four-port Ethernet switch and Wifi router combined into the DSL modem for $350.

A Telecom landline is required but the offer comes with free connection for the DSL.

The plan included with the Broadband in a Box packages is the Woosh Quickfire Orbit 1. This includes 1GB of data and runs at 2Mbit/s downstream and 128kbit/s upstream. Customers who exceed the monthly data limit can either purchase more data or have their connection restricted to 64kbit/s. Woosh sells additional data in 5GB ($10) and 10GB ($20) quantities.

However, Woosh marketing manager Nick Clarke points out that Broadband in a Box customers who regularly exceed the 1GB limit will find it cheaper to upgrade to another fixed-line plan with greater data allowance.

Broadband in a Box will be available from Dick Smiths as well as online from the Woosh website.
