Dear What Am I Worth,

I am a programmer/data analyst working for a large government department in Wellington. I have 10 years' experience with SAS. I also have excellent skills with SQL and HTML, a useful knowledge of C++ (including using the STL) and good experience with Unix.

I have excellent skills in the area of database design . My job involves coding for both regular and ad-hoc reports, using AS to extract data from our data warehouse (via Proc SQL). We then generate the reports in HTML for our intranet site, which is updated daily.

Along with one other programmer, I am responsible for the performance monitoring of the department I work for. Although I have no formal IT qualifications, I do have a Bachelor of Science degree. I've also attended a number of AS training courses, and I'm looking at obtaining one of the new "Linux Engineer" certifications - an area I'm very interested in.

Mercury Consulting Group replies: You have a wide range of skills and your solid understanding of HTML and C++ is useful in today's market. Your salary however would depend on the kind of position you are interested in. A developer with your kind of skills could earn upwards from $60,000.
