CyberElves to ditch Wellington office

Web application developer CyberElves is merging its Auckland and Wellington offices in the City of Sails.

The arrangement will see most Wellington staff transfer to Merito, a company recently established by former CyberElves director Brett Bailey. The remainder will transfer to CyberElves' Auckland office.

CyberElves’ New Zealand operation had been based in Wellington, with the company’s website declaring “it made good sense for CyberElves to establish their first development office in Wellington”. However, the need to provide consistency of service to the company’s overseas clients means merging the two offices was necessary, CyberElves chairman Philip Carden says.

Approximately 80% of the company’s revenue comes from overseas clients, mainly in the telecommunications and banking sectors, in the US and Britain. CyberElves and Merito will work closely together, Carden says.Meanwhile, the details of a planned strategic alliance between CyberElves and Synergy International, an IT and management consultancy, are still being worked out and a formal announcement isn’t likely for a couple of weeks, CyberElves chairman Philip Carden says.

“We’re taking a couple of real cases as examples of how we work together and are working through the details of them to see how they pan out and get a sense of how an alliance might work.”

In June, Carden and Synergy chief executive David Irving announced CyberElves’ and Synergy’s plans to form an alliance and the two companies signed a “heads of agreement”. The alliance will mean a head count of 300 - CyberElves' 30 and Synergy's 230 - to present to US clients and the ability to work out of CyberElves’ New York office.
