Dell Computer staff in New Zealand will begin working from home over the next six months and the company will replace its Auckland and Wellington offices with smaller premises.

Dell already follows a home-office policy for sales staff who work in the field in Australia and the US.

The Texas-based PC maker recently announced that it would lay off 4%, or 1700, of its full-time staff as a cost-cutting measure.

Dell New Zealand general manager Ross Allen says exact dates for the changes haven’t been set. He says all of the company’s staff in New Zealand are account managers and will be affected. He will probably also work from home.

Customers calling the Dell telephone number won’t notice any difference, Allen says. He says there won't be any staff cut-backs.
