Yahoo enhances Yellow Pages with driving directions

Yahoo! will next week release an expanded Yellow Pages service that enables users to find a business closest to their home, and then tells them how to get there.

Yahoo! will next week release an expanded Yellow Pages service that enables users to find a business closest to their home, and then tells them how to get there, officials say.

The service is based on Vicinity's YourTown Driving Directions service, which the company licensed to a number of online information sites today, Vicinity officials say. Visitors to the Yahoo! site enter their address and the name or type of business they are looking for, and are supplied with directions in text and map form showing the fastest route to get there, officials say.

The Yahoo! service, unveiled at the Yellow Pages Publishers Association convention in Florida this week, will be available from October 7 at http://www.yahoo.com/link/yp.html, officials say.
