Sega to announce Web TV device

Details are expected this week of a device that will connect to a Sega games console and allow Net surfing.

Sega of America says it will unveil details this week about Sega Saturn Net Link, an Internet connector which will enable users to explore the World Wide Web on their television sets.

Net Link will cost under US$400, and will plug into the back of a standard Sega Saturn games console, a spokeswoman for the company says. It can be linked to a keyboard and used to send and receive email, and eventually will enable users to download and play video games from the Internet, the spokeswoman says.

The device will be free of the technical jargon that Sega says deters "the masses" from enjoying the Internet, officials says.
