Plan B acquires Auckland-based cloud recovery provider

Ian Forrester, MD of Plan B said that the firm does not intend to sell any new DRG services moving forward.

Business continuity provider Plan B has reached an agreement to acquire the business and assets of Auckland-based private cloud backup and recovery provider Disaster Recovery Group (DRG), effective 1 April 2014.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Ian Forrester, MD of Plan B assured that all DRG employees have been offered contracts, though they are in the process of working through final details with each person, and there are no redundancies expected as of this time.

“Initially the existing DRG customers will remain as DRG customers, but the medium future of the brand is yet to be decided. At this point we do not intend to sell any new DRG services moving forward,” said Forrester.

Plan B expects to add around 30 to 40 customers from the DRG acquisition “depending on whether we choose not to assign certain contracts at renewal.”

According to Plan B, the acquisition is a complimentary bolt-on to existing private cloud backup and replication business and is part of a wider acquisition strategy following a period of significant growth in the cloud services business over the past few years.

“The acquisition will add potential future opportunities that we will be in a position to discuss in the next few months,” added Forrester.
