Samsung Galaxy S5 and Gear devices hit NZ market

Telecom customers can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $1,049 outright; Vodafone customers who buy a Galaxy S5 stand a chance to win $100,000 of gold.

New Samsung devices, the Galaxy S5, Gear 2 and Gear Fit, become available in the NZ market today, with Telecom and Vodafone announcing that its customers can now access them.

Telecom Retail CEO Chris Quin said, “Wearable devices are and will continue to play a huge part in the way our customers use mobile technology.

“Samsung is showing some great innovation in this field with the latest version of its smart watch, the Gear 2 along with the Gear Fit - a wrist device that will keep you connected while on the move and allows its user to take advantage of a number of health-related features.”

“We’ve had a lot of customers pre-order the Galaxy S5 and they’ll be the first to get the new device today."

Not to be outdone, Vodafone has announced that customers buying the new Samsung Galaxy S5 can enter a draw to win $100,000 of gold. According to the company, daily prizes including Samsung Galaxy S5s, speakers and tablets are also up for grabs to Kiwis visiting the Vodafone website and entering online.

"“Anyone who purchases a Samsung Galaxy S5 from a Vodafone store or online between 11 April and 11 May 2014 can enter Vodafone’s Great Galaxy Goldrush. They register on the website, and pick a spot on the map in one of Vodafone’s 37 4G-coverage locations across New Zealand to enter the draw to win the gold. Customers can enter on a daily basis for the length of the competition," said Matt Williams, Vodafone consumer director.

Telecom customers can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $1,049 outright on any Telecom Prepaid or Ultra Mobile plan.

The Gear 2 can be purchased from selected stores and online for $399 outright and the Gear Fit can be purchased for $299 online.

Kiwis can get the Samsung Galaxy S5 in gold, black and white models from Vodafone for $0 on the Red $129 plan with a 24 month term. To enter the Goldrush promotion customers have to purchase the phone from an approved Vodafone channel.
