Enable promises fibre services to more Christchurch customers in 2015

Fibre network provider, Enable, has announced that as part of its network build programme, an additional 26,000 customers across Christchurch will receive access to its services by July 2015.

The areas that Enable will be extending overage to in the coming year includes parts of Templeton, Avonside, Linwood, Bromley, Waltham and Woolston, large areas in Riccarton, Sockburn, Llam and Fendalton, and more of Sydenham, Addington, Middleton, Wigram, Hornby, Burnside, Strowan, Merivale, St Albans, Edgeware, Shirley and Richmond, among others.

The plan will see the company increase its deployment rate by at least 30 per cent against last year.

“By mid-2015, over 80,000 potential customers across greater Christchurch will be able to access fibre broadband services over Enable’s network. We will have delivered nearly half our total network deployment,” said Enable CEO, Steve Fuller.

According to the company, it has received more than 4,200 fibre broadband orders in the last 12 months, compared with 1,454 total customers at 30 June 2013.

“It’s been a remarkable year in terms of uptake. A year ago a record orders month for Enable was 100; now it is 750. We are about to pass 10 per cent uptake across our network and in some areas we are enjoying 20 plus percent,” said Fuller.

Word of mouth within the community about just how much better fibre broadband is combined with a better understanding that there is usually no additional cost is driving people to make the switch to fibre.

“We will be deploying network to schools, business areas and thousands of homes spread right across the city – from Templeton to New Brighton,” said Fuller.

Enable’s fibre broadband services are currently available to just over 52,000 homes and businesses. The company is also about to launch its services to large parts of Rangiora and Kaiapoi.
