Business boost for 60,000 Kiwis as Spark unveils Aussie roaming plans

Spark is offering more attractive roaming options to the more than 60,000 customers who travel to Australia each month, through two new mobile roaming packs.

Designed for both the business traveller and holidaymaker, the new weekly and monthly Aussie Mobile Roaming Value Packs include increased mobile data, calling minutes and text allowances.

For the first time, customers who sign up to the Value Packs will also be able to receive calls for free while roaming in Australia, and the weekly value pack is available to both Pay Monthly and prepaid customers.

“We are all becoming more reliant on our smartphones while travelling,” says Chris Quin, Mobile & Business CEO, Spark Home.

“Not only do we want to stay in touch with friends and family, but we’re using them to book accommodation, find our way around, check the news, find the best places to eat – and of course to show those back home what they’re missing out on by posting videos and photos as we travel.

“We’ve had a fantastic uptake and response to $10 a day roaming and so we’re really pleased to continue providing this product to our customers.

“Alongside this, our new Value Packs will present another great option to both our prepaid and Pay Monthly customers who have told us they’d like more choice when it comes to staying connected in Aussie, whether they’re in town for a few days or a full month.”

Quin says prepaid customers have historically shied away from using their smartphones while travelling, but following the announcement the telco expects the weekly prepaid value pack will change that.

“We’ve also heard from our customers that they don’t want to be punished for being contactable while they’re overseas so we’re making it free for customers using these packs in Aussie to receive calls from New Zealand,” he adds.

“They can now answer calls from business associates, worried mums or jealous mates to their hearts’ content without worrying about what it might cost them.”

Customers can purchase these packs right up to the day-of travel or as soon as they get to their destination in Australia.
