Kiwi tech receives clean bill of health as Orion wins big in UK

“This award is welcome recognition of the vital health benefits Orion Health is helping provide across the United Kingdom."

New Zealand-based technology firm Orion Health has won the 2015 HealthInvestor award for Technology Provider of the Year for establishing partnerships that deliver better healthcare services.

Presenting the award at a gala evening with over 1300 health sector leaders in London earlier this month, judges claimed Orion Health stood out for having a “big impact in providing technology to health services where it most mattered across numerous major UK health projects.”

The judges cited Orion Health for its role in “innovative and ground-breaking partnerships” helping a “highly vulnerable, formerly ill-served group of patients, generating great results,” and an “excellent example of clinical business partnership in patients’ interest.”

“This award is welcome recognition of the vital health benefits Orion Health is helping provide across the United Kingdom,” says Ian McCrae, CEO, Orion Health.

“It will contribute to the strong momentum we have built in that market. It is particularly pleasing as it recognises our efforts in helping drive our customers’ success - something our UK team should be extremely proud of.”

Health projects where Orion Health information integration technology was cited for helping widely differing and changing populations included:

• An award-winning partnership with Health & Social Care Services Northern Ireland providing clinical portal-based electronic care record services to the entire population of Northern Ireland (1.8 million people) – where 83 per cent of doctors reported a better clinical outcome as a result of the partnership.

• A partnership with Connecting Care integrating health and social care information across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

• Working in Scotland with the NHS Great Glasgow and Clyde Health Board, one of the largest health boards in the UK, to implement an Electronic Health Record system that allows doctors to access patient records from multiple sources no matter where they are located: this now supports the viewing of over 160,000 results per week via the portal.

McCrae says the three projects selected by the judges reflected Orion Health’s leading role in delivering clinical portal functionality within hospitals and clinics, connecting electronic health records across multiple regions.

Since entering the UK and Irish markets over ten years ago, McCrae says Orion Health is now considered a leader and has enjoyed a doubling of business over the past three years from 31 to over 65 NHS customers.

The HealthInvestor awards were established nine years ago to recognise the innovation and excellence of the teams investing in, operating or advising healthcare providers in the UK.
