Chorus appoints Patrick Strange as new Chairman

The Chorus Board has appointed Dr Patrick Strange as chairman from 1 September 2015.

The Chorus Board has appointed Dr Patrick Strange as chairman from 1 September 2015.

Jon Hartley has been interim chairman of the Chorus Board since April 2015, and will take up the position of deputy chairman following Dr Strange’s appointment.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to welcome Patrick to the position of chairman,” Hartley says.

“Patrick has extensive experience in leadership and governance roles across a wide range of regulated infrastructure businesses and his appointment to the chairmanship has the full support of the board.

“His knowledge of fit for purpose regulatory regimes is particularly appropriate as Chorus participates in the current review of regulation.

“We look forward to working together on behalf of our shareholders to build on the progress Chorus has made, and cementing the company’s position as an essential provider of critical infrastructure to New Zealand.”

Dr Strange was appointed to the Chorus Board in April this year and is currently also a director of Mighty River Power, NZX Limited, WorkSafe New Zealand and of the joint board of Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy, Australia.

Hartley has been a Chorus director since it listed in 2011 - he is currently also deputy chairman of ASB Bank and Sovereign Assurance Company, chairman of VisionFund International and the Wellington City Mission and a trustee of World Vision New Zealand.
