Christchurch based ARANZ Medical, a specialist in 3D scanning and informatics for the healthcare sector, has won the Private Sector Excellence Award at the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Global ICT Excellence Awards 2016. It was nominated for the award by the New Zealand Technology Industry Association (NZTech).

NZTech CEO, Graeme Muller described the award as "the equivalent to an Oscar of global technology.” He said NZTech had nominated ARANZ Medical and other NZTech members following them winning New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards in May.

The WITSA Global ICT Excellence Award Ceremony is held once every two years in conjunction with the World Congress on Information Technology to “recognise organisations whose use of IT has exhibited exceptional achievement to benefit societies, governments, organisations and individuals.”

Award categories include: Private Sector Excellence, Public Sector Excellence, Mobile Excellence, Digital Opportunity and Sustainable Growth. Also, a special Chairman’s Award is presented to a nominee from the entire pool of candidates across all five categories.

Muller said the award meant that ARANZ Medical had “effectively been recognised as world champions of cool technology.” The company was also recently named a supreme winner at the Champion Canterbury Awards.

ARANZ Medical has developed a number of 3D-scanning products that it says transform several crucial clinical assessment practices, improve quality of care and make delivery of care more cost-effective. They include: Silhouette, a wound surveillance system, and FastSCAN which enables the custom-fit of orthotics and prosthetics.

ARANZ Medical CEO, Dr Davey, said the company’s technology equipped researchers and clinicians with important new knowledge to help them improve the lives of millions of people worldwide, including high risk groups such as diabetes sufferers and the elderly.

ARANZ Medical says its products are used in more than 35 countries across the globe in a range of clinical practice and research settings, and demand is growing rapidly as a result of the increased prevalence of diseases like diabetes, an ageing population, more accountable healthcare and the emerging telehealth trend.
