A computerized biometric fingerprint recognition system has been installed for the Durban Christian Centre (DCC), Berea, aiming to secure access to some sections of the octagonal, dome-structured church, and at the same time provide a time and attendance register for staff.

DataPro's private placement results out

South African telecommunications company and Internet service provider, DataPro Pty. Ltd.- which is to list on Altx on October 18th - released the results of its private placement today. Says James Herbst, the director responsible for corporate finance: "Of the 18 497 204 ordinary shares available in terms of the private placement, subscriptions were received for 46 092 600 shares, resulting in an over-subscription rate of 2.49 times."

Didata and Ispat Iscor in outsourcing deal

African steel producer, Ispat Iscor Ltd., recently signed a three-year network outsourcing contract with Dimension Data Holdings PLC. The deal will result in Didata providing an outsourced network management solution to 19 sites across South Africa.

MasterCard offers debit card with chips in South Africa

Capitec Bank and MasterCard International Inc.'s Southern Africa division Tuesday announced a pilot of pre-authorized debit card based on the EMV standard, in the Qwa-Qwa town of Phuthadjitjaba in the Free State province. The new debit card is said to be specifically designed to provide a straightforward, low-cost banking product with easy access to the mass market.

Global Crossing expands in South Africa

Internet Solutions Pty. Ltd. (IS) has signed an agreement with international telecoms company, Global Crossing Ltd., for a bilateral MPLS VPN footprint. Under the agreement, SA customers of IS will have access to Global Crossing's global, IP-based network, and Global Crossing's international customers will have access to MPLS-based services in this country.
