Sony Electronics announced on Wednesday it will use Transmeta's Crusoe processor in its new Vaio notebook, which will be available in the U.S. next month.

Napster was granted a slight reprieve yesterday, albeit in the form of an injunction from U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel. The file sharing service has been ordered to continue with the blocking mechanism.

Users able to bypass Napster's filter

Music file-sharing service Napster implemented a file filtering system last Sunday night which was meant to block users from downloading a preliminary list of song titles provided by attorneys for the record industry, but by Monday afternoon users found they were able to bypass the system in some cases.

In what some had predicted would be judgement day for music-sharing service Napster, the company revealed a plan Friday that appears set to block its users from accessing more than one million digital music files from its service.

Microsoft became the victim of a hoax last Thursday when a link to a parody Web page based on one of its "How to" instructional sites spread rapidly around the Internet via e-mail.

RIAA fights Napster lookalikes

In the wake of its legal battle against music-sharing service Napster, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has taken steps that show its efforts to protect copyrights on the Web are far from over, a lawyer for the RIAA confirmed Friday. This time, it has been sending out legal notices to ISPs (Internet service providers) that it believes host similar services to Napster, said Jonathan Whitehead, anti-piracy counsel for the RIAA.
