Salesforce.com has agreed to buy big data firm Tableau Software for US$15.3 billion, adding muscle in its fight with Microsoft for a bigger share of the market that helps businesses target customers with tools to analyze and visualize data.
Back in April, Tableau released version 9.0 of its flagship analytics software, and on Monday the company followed up with an update to the product's online edition that it says is up to 10 times faster than its predecessor.
Tableau Software will release a big update to its business intelligence software in the coming weeks, promising that customers will be able to spend more time on data analysis and less on "data wrangling."
Organizations can now add machine-generated data to their palate of information sources that can be aggregated and analyzed, thanks to a new connector jointly developed by Tableau Software, a provider of business intelligence software, and Splunk, which sells a log-file search engine.
