Telecom has confirmed today that it will be launching its internet TV business, called Lightbox, in the next few weeks, with about 5,000 hours of content. This will include exclusive television series and a range of back-catalogues of TV shows.
Telecom intends to change its name to Spark and enter the internet TV market later this year.
Users whose ISP has a strict monthly limit on bandwidth usage may be forced to turn away from the new peer-to-peer TV streaming offering planned by the founders of VoIP provider Skype.
Few people watch television alone today, even when they're by themselves. Most are gravitating toward the multi-screen experience, in which viewers keep a smartphone, tablet or laptop close by so they can access the Web while they watch TV. But as televisions become smarter and gesture-based computing evolves, viewers may be able to mount and control everything they need on the living room wall.
