Internet service provider Orcon is describing Telecom's proposal for wholesale naked DSL as "window dressing" and claiming it is not a viable commercial product.
Auckland ISP Orcon has taken a further step towards becoming a fully-fledged telecommunications carrier, by signing the Number Administration Deed, or NAD. By signing, Orcon is able to apply for phone number ranges that it intends to use for its internet telephony service over naked DSL.

Telecommunications Minister David Cunliffe stunned the nation yesterday when he announced a comprehensive regulatory package which includes local loop unbundling for the incumbent, Telecom New Zealand. Although the announcement was to have been part of the new budget on May 18, a parliamentary leak to Telecom forced Cunliffe to reveal it early.
