While Telstra’s restructure, announced yesterday, has attracted negative attention, the telco’s willingness to embrace the transformation is a major step in the right direction, according to independent industry analyst, Paul Budde.
The Communications Workers Union, the communications branch of the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU), plans to meet with Telstra on Tuesday to learn more about the telco’s restructuring plans and what they mean for industry jobs, according to CWU national assistant secretary Ken Hardisty.
Optus has completed a business restructuring that integrates Optus Business with Alphawest and SingTel subsidiary NCS. The groups, which serve enterprise and government customers, previously operated separately.
NZX-listed payments technology and wi-fi company SmartPay has restructured, shedding up to 10 staff, to focus on its three main markets: telecommunications, music/media and taxi payments.
Managing director Ian Bailey, formerly of Cadmus, says SmartPay has reduced its overheads by consolidating all staff into one building, reviewing its headcount, consolidating its multiple operating entities and implementing new accounting and reporting systems.
