    Although <a href="http://www.networkworld.com/news/2009/021909-desktop-virtualization-faq.html">desktop virtualization</a> is still a relatively new technology, Ravi Ravishanker is no stranger to it. He helped implement VDI projects at Pace University and Wesleyan University in recent years and now is overseeing a rollout at Wellesley College, the all-women's school west of Boston where he serves as CIO. I met with Ravishanker earlier this year in person and followed up by email with this series of questions that he and his staff answered about the school's deep dive into virtualization technologies.

  • Datacentre planned for Hawke's Bay; will leverage local network

    Virtual Infrastructure Professionals (VIP) is to spend $250,000 on creating data storage services in Hastings in the next three months, and will then look for a larger, permanent facility in Hawke&#8217;s Bay with a tier 2.5 or higher rating. In a statement announcing the initiative, the company refers to the planned centre as a data storage centre, rather than a datacentre.

  • Desktop virtualisation take-up on the increase

    A third of enterprises are looking to move to desktop virtualisation according to research from desktop services specialist Centrix. More than three-quarters of the respondents said that cost reduction was the prime driver for the move to the technology.
