Storage vendor Breece Hill LLC unveiled this week a disk-to-disk backup and retrieval appliance that will let users more quickly recover as well as back up data.
The iStoRA 4000 Data Protection Appliance is a device that combines disk, tape and data protection software in a rack-mounted device. It is designed for small and mid-sized businesses and departments and workgroups within large enterprise-size businesses.
The iStoRA 4000 allows users to stage the backup and restoration of data that must be kept for regulatory compliance. It consists of a 4U enclosure which contains Serial ATA drives and a tape autoloader. The iStoRA will hold as much as 13 terabytes of data.
The company has also integrated an Intel-based server and software that performs rules-based traffic and storage management. This software could be used to perform replication or migration of data, or file grooming.
The iStoRA product is available now through resellers. It starts at US$19,400.
