Switch fault takes out Blenheim phones

6,000 customers affected by twenty minute outage

A switch fault today saw thousands of Telecom customers in Blenheim unable to make phone calls from their landlines. The fault struck at 2.40 pm, with the a switch being lost.

Over 6,000 customers were affected, and could not make or receive calls, including ones to the 111 emergency number.

A Telecom spokesperson confirms that the fault took place in Blenheim, but says it was short in duration.

The switch fault was sorted out within twenty minutes, the spokesperson says, and phone service has now been restored.
