Oracle reviving JD Edwards name Down Under

Lauds 'sheer magnitude of the JD Edwards economy'

Oracle is to re-launch the JD Edwards brand in Australia and New Zealand. Citing "latent demand" and "the sheer magnitude of the JD Edwards economy in Australia", Oracle Australia applications general manager Scott Dawes told Australian Computerworld that the company has "decided to re-launch this brand, much to the delight of our customer base."

At the Smart2005 supply chain conference in Sydney recently, Oracle executives reassured delegates that the JD Edwards brand and product line will remain, at least until Oracle's Project Fusion, the merger of its E-Business Suite and PeopleSoft and JD Edwards product lines, is ready.

Australia and New Zealand are JD Edwards strongholds. In New Zealand, JD Edwards had a bigger staff than PeopleSoft at the time of PeopleSoft's acquisition of JD Edwards in 2003.

The acquisition prompted Oracle's 18-month hostile takeover bid for PeopleSoft, which was eventually successful late last year.
