SurfControl speeds info delivery

Threat alerts to be mailed more quickly

SurfControl has announced plans to boost delivery of its internet security threat lists by making them available on Akamai’s network of 20,000 servers. SurfControl customers who subscribe to the company’s list of internet threats — such as email addresses that send spam or websites that download malicious code on visitors’ PCs — will be able to download these lists from the closest Akamai server, rather than having to rely on a central location, according to SurfControl.

Akamai’s Electronic Software Delivery product will let SurfControl deliver more frequent updates to its customers that will arrive as much as 300% faster than before, says SurfControl.

By leveraging Akamai’s content-distribution and acceleration system, SurfControl also will have more capacity to accommodate its growing customer base as well as surges in online traffic, says the company.

SurfControl makes web, email and endpoint security products available as managed services, appliances or software.
