Wellington City Council has this week approved the full suggested budget for its disaster recovery systems (see Wellington to back up alone).
The $3.8m over four years will contain an element of depreciation, rising from $151,000 to $363,000 each year, says IT spokesman David McLachlan.
The council will site its backup facility in Tawa, and it will gradually “become more and more functional” with the years, McLachlan says.
The council plans to have all critical applications capable of restoration within three to five days by the end of the 2006/7 financial year.
