How do I get into e-commerce?

Dear Adviser,

I have a Bachelor's degree in computer science with a background in C, C++ and Windows NT networking. I've worked with hardware but I'm focusing on software. I want to get into an e-commerce company and work on software applications. Do I have a chance?

Dear Transaction-Oriented

If you are seeking to build on your C, C++ background and move your career path into development, you should build on this strength by gaining commercial experience as well as a course in Java.

There are many openings in the market for people with C, C++ and Java experience in e-commerce development environments. There are a number of institutions offering courses in Java and I feel if you are able to add this qualification or experience to your Curriculum Vitae, more options will open up for you. This would enable you to move your career path into e-commerce.
