- Cisco Systems has confirmed the resignation of its Asia vice president although the company is yet to issue a formal announcement.
Gary Jackson, vice president of Cisco's Asia operations and former managing director of Cisco Australia and New Zealand, resigned last week.
According to Terry Walsh, Cisco's managing director, Australia and New Zealand, Jackson left the company of his own accord. "He decided it was time to move on. We don't know where he is going but I think he decided he had done his time with us," Walsh says.
Walsh says there has been no news as to who will replace Jackson, who was based in Singapore and oversaw Hong Kong, India, Indo-China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
"His role in Asia-Pacific operations is a key role, so I imagine the company will replace him pretty quickly," Walsh says.
Jackson joined Cisco in early 1997 as managing director of the Australia and New Zealand operations, and according to his executive profile, under his leadership, the area's revenues grew three-fold, and the company became the local market leader in LAN (local area network) switching and routing. The company's telecommunications and service provider business grew from 11% to 32% of Cisco's local revenue under his leadership.
Before joining Cisco, Jackson was managing director of Sybase and in 1987 the MD for Microsoft Australia.
