BREAKING NEWS: Telecom emulates Microsoft's DNS gaffe?

Telecom appears to have suffered the same fate as Microsoft did recently, with its main website having been taken offline for much of the day by problems with its DNS servers

Telecom's corporate website, from which the company runs a number of customers services, and all those using domains listed on its two main DNS servers, ish1.telecom.co.nz and ish2.telecom.co.nz, have been unavailable because both nameservers - which, like Microsoft's, are both on the same subnet - are not responding to queries.

Telecom spokesperson Anna Hughes said late today that EDS, to which Telecom outsources its IT management, was working on the problem and was hopeful of a fix tonight. She could offer no explanation for the outage.

There have been suggestions on local mailing lists that the system administrators have performed a software upgrade on the servers without backing up their zone files.
