Westpac NZ is working on a banking app that will work on smart watches to provide customers updates on their account balances at the touch of the wrist.
The app, whose release date is yet to be confirmed, will initially be available on the Sony SmartWatch, and will be later extended to other smart watches.
“Customers are adopting all forms of mobile technology at an extraordinary pace. We see this development as another step forward and a key part of our strategy to offer them the best digital banking experience in New Zealand with unparalleled functionality across all devices,” said Westpac’s head of digital Simon Pomeroy.
The SmartWatch app is based on the bank’s Cash Tank app which allows customers to get balance information without any authentication.
Pomeroy said Westpac is now working on extending the functionality of the app to offer customers transfers between their bank accounts and the ability to receive account alerts to the watch.
