New Zealand’s largest electricity and gas retailer, and power generator, Genesis Energy, has completed a large-scale migration of its IT infrastructure to Spark’s Revera cloud platform and is now running its business from the cloud.
According to Spark the migration has been accomplished as part of a broader partnership through which Spark is providing Genesis Energy with a tailored package of IT managed services, business mobile, and cloud services in a “highly competitive” five-year deal.
Genesis Energy’s executive general manager for technology and digital, Jennifer Cherrington-Mowat, said the move to cloud had been a logical step for the company, enabling it to better focus on its customers. “We’re now in a great position to drive further efficiencies and deliver innovative energy solutions for New Zealanders in a fast-changing energy market,” she said
Spark’s general manager enterprise commercial and trans-Tasman, Vanessa Sorenson said both parties were also complementing each other’s business by offering additional value-added products and services directly to their respective customers.
In January Spark announced a similar total cloud migration to Revera for another energy company, Contact Energy. Spark, then Telecom NZ, acquired the Revera cloud business in April 2013 for $96.5m.

Spark has announced that its chief transformation officer, David Havercroft, will step down from his executive duties as a member of the Spark leadership team on 1 July. However, managing director, Simon Moutter said he would continue on a part time basis in a consulting advisory role “providing strategic consulting on key technology, business transformation and simplification initiatives to both the executive team and to the audit and risk management committee of the board.”
