Symantec has announced plans to acquire Relicore, a provider of datacentre management software, as part of a bid to round out its offerings for datacentre customers.

In buying Relicore, Symantec will get its hands on Relicore Clarity, a management tool that offers the ability to discover and track changes to application and server components in a datacentre. This eliminates the need to track changes manually and can speed up troubleshooting efforts if an upgrade causes a problem, Symantec says.

Relicore Clarity can also help to ensure that regualatory frameworks such as Sarbanes-Oxley are enforced with related systems, Symantec says.

Symantec will continue to offer Relicore Clarity as a standalone product through its sales channel from March 1, assuming the acquisition is completed as planned.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
